As we break out the heavy winter coats, the last things on our mins are our pools; but it doesn’t mean we can neglect it. You may think you are done taking care of your pool for the season, but proper pool maintenance should be completed all year round.
Read the following tips to keep your pool in top condition over the winter:
- Run the filter during the off season to prevent the dirt and debris from staining your pool.
- Secure your pool cover. Wind, rain, and snow can damage your pool cover. Above ground pools should have heavy duty air inflated covers and in ground pools should have a safety cover that secures the cover to your patio or deck area. Regularly check the cover and make sure it is secure.
- Remove leaves and debris from your pool cover. Eliminating debris from your pool cover will prevent it from being torn, ripped, or otherwise damaged during the winter months. It will also prevent any debris from getting into the pool.
- Clean the surrounding areas. Algae forms when debris remains in your swimming pool for periods of time. Removing leaves, dirt, and debris from around the pool will keep the water clean during the winter months.
Don’t forget about your pool this winter. Keep it clean and the filter running since another swimming season is right around the corner. For more advice on maintaining your pool, contact the experts at Continental Pools today at 1-800-640-0062.
