Marsala: Using the Color of the Year In Your Home

Dec 15

The color specialists at Pantone have chosen “Marsala” as the Color of the Year for 2015! The sophisticated, reddish brown will define consumers’ mood and design trends for the year. You can already find Marsala across the globe in food, fashion, and home décor. The color trend will continue to grow in 2015, whether it’s being used as a hair color, in home design, as a nail polish, or in clothing textiles.

While the Color of the Year may seem bold, it has a neutral base, and can be used as a neutral color when it comes to design. There are a number of other budget friendly ways that you can incorporate Marsala throughout your home!

  • Go Delicate:  Framing your windows in this luxurious shade of red-brown will take your windows to an upscale level of design. For an ultra-stylish but affordable look, purchase a few yards of Marsala-themed fabric. Size them to your window, sew a simple hem into the top and bottom, and you suddenly have stunning drapes in the most modern of colors!
  • Go Bold:  If you are completely in love with the color of the year, cover your home in the lush shade. Expert colorists at CertaPro Painters of Springfield, MO recommend using the hue in spaces like the living room or bedroom. Pair Marsala with dark wood furniture or cabinetry to really make it pop.
  • Go Subtle:  If you’re not ready to fully commit to the color, try using Marsala to cover an accent wall. Unlike some of Pantone’s other candidates for Color of the Year, Marsala is bold, but also subtle enough to work into existing décor. Try pairing it with warm white or light gray walls in a bedroom or in a living space on a media wall.
  • Go Intricate:  You can find a number of textiles that showcase the rich Marasala color. Because of its neutral qualities, the Color of the Year has been easily mixed within home accents, from throw pillows to wall tapestries.
  • Go Unique:  The color Marsala is unique in itself, so the way that you use it should really showcase that uniqueness. Paint the interior of a book shelf with Marsala to add a pop of color to an otherwise boring, unnoticed space.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to using Marsala in your home décor. Make an elegant statement – invite Pantone’s Color of the Year into your home!
