With Week 1 already behind us, it’s time to get your home ready for the rest of football season! This means your weekends are now devoted to Fantasy Football prep and afternoons in front of the television as you and your root for your favorite team. Whether you’re into the watching experience or more about the social aspect of football season, work these decorating tips and tricks into your family room to get the most out of football season.
Optimally arrange the furniture. You’ll need plenty of seating if you’re going to host Football Sundays at your house. Make sure there are enough options for all of your guests. That could mean incorporating folding chairs into the layout, moving furniture from another room, or investing in a few accent chairs! When you’re arranging the furniture, be sure to be mindful of the pathways it creates in the room. You want to create a flow for your guests so they can maneuver throughout the space without disrupting other guests’ viewing experience.
Situate the television. Your TV should be the focal point of the room you plan to watch the game in. If you have a large flat screen TV, consider mounting it on the wall for optimum viewing. If your television is smaller, make sure the stand it’s on sits high enough so that the TV can be seen from various points around the room. For a bit of decorative flair, frame your television with shelving units, pictures, or posters of your favorite team’s players.
Amp up the lighting. Football games happen all day Sunday, so depending on what time your game is on, you’ll need to adjust the lighting in the room accordingly. For afternoon games, let sheer drapes allow natural light into the room without creating a glare on the television. Arrange table lamps and overhead lighting that can be turned on as the sun starts to set.
Make sure there are enough surfaces. With football comes plenty of drinking and snacking. Ensure the room you’re watching football in has ample table space for guests to put their drinks and snack plates. To prevent your friends and family from cluttering these surfaces with their personal effects, create a space in your entryway where they can place purses, bags, and shoes.
